A bit of ground broke off the riverbank, which looks like a small wave. Indeed a timeless and elegant black and white photograph of the canoe which stands on stilts.
Assam has many wildlife sanctuaries. However, the most famous of which are two UNESCO World Heritage sites. Firstly, the Kaziranga National Park and secondly, the Manas Wildlife Sanctuary.
The Kaziranga National Park is home to two-thirds of the world’s population of endangered Indian one-horned rhinoceroses. It was also named as a tiger reserve in 2006, holding the highest population of tigers in the world. The name Assam comes from the word ‘asama,’ which means ‘peerless’ in the now extinct Ahom language. Geographically, this is a place that looks like a Y lying on its side. It is a land of many plains and river valleys.
Unfortunately, earthquake is quite common in Assam. One of the biggest disasters in South Asia’s history occurred in 1950. The Zayu (Rima) in Tibet at the Arunachal Pradesh border is the epicenter. The floods that took place in the aftermath killed more people than the actual earthquake. Indeed overflowing riverbanks, property loss, and the bursting of earthquake-generated dams.
