A cute Meerkat baby is standing upright between the bushes of the Kalahari desert. The soft orange light of the African sunrise shines like a smooth spotlight on the adorable Meerkat pup. It looks surprisingly to me like saying; you are up already?
African Spotlight On A Cute Meerkat Baby Standing Upright
What are the best times to find Meerkat families in the wild? You have to get up before the sunrise. When the rising sun’s first light shows over the horizon, the Suricata animals leave their den. One by one comes out of the bolt-hole.
Now, what is a Meerkat bolt-hole? Bolt-holes is another word for a Meerkat burrow, hideout, den. When all animals are out, the fun starts. The Meerkats are running all over, babies are playing with each other, and one or two Meerkats are assigned to be sentries.
What does a Meerkat sentry? A Meerkat sentry finds a higher point, standing upright on its back legs to scan the foraging area for potential predators. I spotted them also balancing high above the ground on tiny branches in tall bushes.
Meerkats, Suricata suricatta, are listed as least concern on the IUCN red list. Their populations you find mostly in Southern Western Africa.

Many thanks, Hanneke. The vibrant colors are as the Kalahari was at that time. Lots of rain gave the whole fauna a significant boost. 😀
