Two funny meerkats, the baby, is standing while watching a family member digging for food. Maybe the pup can steal it! I doubt it. From what I have witnessed, they protect their catch. It is mine! But larger prey they sometimes share with other family members.
Funny Meerkats – Baby Observes
What are Meerkats eating? Every morning, at sunrise, they crawl out of their den and start to search for food. A Meerkat Lookout will be standing up to watch the area for predators while the other family members search for food.
In fact, Meerkats smell excellent to find their prey in the ground. They dig in the sand for spiders, frogs, insects, lizards, and even scorpions are on their menu. The Meerkat’s territory is about 10 square kilometers / 4 miles large. Every day they will go to a different section for foraging food.
Meerkats, Suricata suricatta, are listed as the least concern on the IUCN red list.
