The funny Helmeted Guinea fowl is running from the left to the right in this photograph. That is an extended exposure photograph, which shows the motion of the bird. Indeed it seems that the bird runs out of the photograph. The guinea fowl is a very social bird. They walk all day in search of food and travel long distances. At night they roost up in the trees to avoid predators.

Guinea Fowl Running

In a flock, these birds can be quite noisy. It is always hilarious and funny to watch them since they act lost. When they are drinking at a waterhole, they get disturbed by an alarm call. It could be that a leopard or jackal sneaks up! The whole flock runs wildly in one direction and makes lots of noise.

I seldom saw a Helmeted Guinea fowl taking off into the air. To me, it seems they love to run instead of fly.

To capture this bird photograph, I concentrated on one guinea fowl drinking at a waterhole. All of a sudden, the bird was running because of an alarm call. It is a bit hard to follow a fowl with the camera since this bird is a super quick runner.

I needed a few attempts to capture this photograph. I knew undoubtedly that the whole flock would come back to the waterhole. The bird in this photograph shows its speed and nearly runs out of the photo.

Helmeted Guinea fowl, Numididae Meleagris, is a native bird to Africa.

Looks like the roadrunner has competition now from a guinea fowl.
