Polar bear on the beach, having a closer look at us. No snow is present on this island. Instead, only a sandy beach, and in the distance is a mountain. We were cruising with the zodiac to photograph this Polar bear on the beach. Curiosity is one of its characteristics. Therefore, this marine mammal walks toward us to investigate. Capturing this animal is fascinating as I was able to document their behavior firsthand.
The mighty Polar bear is quite an extraordinary animal, as well as spends most of its time at sea on sea ice to capture its favorite food – seals. They do not only look for seals. As you can see, the Polar bear is on land on a beach to find walruses. A young walrus would be a good meal too. When hungry, a Polar bear eats nearly anything, including human garbage.
Did you know that their fur/hair is nearly transparent and hollow? Now you know! The fur appears to be white because it reflects the light of the surroundings. Their black skin is best for absorbing energy from the sun.
The Arctic is their habitat and their home. Since they spend the majority of their life on sea ice, one of their threats is climate change. We predicted that their number will decline by 30% by 2050. Polar bear, Ursus maritimus, is listed as a threatened animal on the IUCN list.

Thomas –
This is a beauty and so seldom do we see images of polar bears not on snow or ice in the Arctic.
Anette Mossbacher –
Indeed, climate change goes fast!
Stephen –
No snow, right the climate change.
Anette Mossbacher –
Yes, it was strange to this Polar bear walking on a sandy beach and hardly snow or ice around. Well, climate change indeed.
Lucy –
Wow!! That’s an amazing photo! 🔥🔥
Anette Mossbacher –
Thank you Lucy. The real world of Polar bears nowadays, not to much snow around!
