The landscape in this photograph almost seems untouched. Gorgeous sunrise, light returns on the dunes. The smooth, flawless sand dunes of Sossusvlei are rolling on as far as the eye can see. They are winding their way in this arid landscape. Undoubtedly the height of these dunes is enormous. The harsh desert sun casts deep shadows as it descends after a long day of scorching heat. Furthermore, the many blues of the sky all blend into each other, forming a perfect ombre backdrop. In front of the dunes are Acacia trees scattered.
Sossusvlei Namib Desert
The famous Sossusvlei is indeed Namibia’s most iconic landscape. Its rust-red dunes, bleached white pans, and brilliant blue sky are instantly recognizable. These symbolize the country’s endless, parched, unsympathizing terrain. The biggest out of all the sand dunes in Sossusvlei, we call the Big Daddy. It reaches a height of 325 meters from the ground!
People like to climb this mountain of sand. Talk about a leg workout. Mainly for two reasons. Firstly, it allows you to see a 360-degree view of the expanse of the surreal landscape. Secondly, climbing this colossal sand dune, it gives you ultimate bragging rights amongst your friends and family.

This is what I always imagined when I thought of sand dunes, an endless vastness of sand.
Anette Mossbacher –
Indeed, never-ending sand. Thank you, Janis. 😀
