Two African Elephants Drinking at a waterhole. A fine art black and white photograph showing much contrast. I use the rule of thirds in photography to create an overall balanced photograph. The two African elephants we see from their side profile, facing each other. The dramatic horizon line in the background completes the scene and adds to the photograph’s appeal. Undoubtedly, the vast open plains give a sense of an extensive view.
We know elephants are wise. After swimming in the river or splashing, they coat their skin in mud to protect themselves from the sun’s harmful rays. Indeed, they have learned how to make their sunscreen. Clever! Not only that, but in times of extreme drought or dry spells, they can even dig for water. Indeed, they use their trunks to dig in the sand until they reach an alternative water source. While it provides them with water, it gives other animals water too.
African elephants, Loxodonta africana, are listed in category vulnerable on the IUCN list.
