Disco Bay’s Icebergs In Greenland

Disko Bay is right next to Ilulissat. The main town of Greenland. The name Ilulissat translates to ‘icebergs’ in Greenlandic. Primarily known for its spectacular icebergs, it is a wanders place to behold. The Ilulissat Ice Fjord is within walking distance from the town. Indeed that fjord is the first place in Greenland, which came on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Famous Disko Bay, you find in Greenland. People often wonder why Greenland is named that if it’s mostly icy and cold. Erik the Red has given the name, banned from Iceland for a murder he had to move to Greenland in the 900s. There are a few theories why he named it that name. Some believe he tried to market the place to get other settlers to join him. Others believe that the temperatures were higher at the time. Therefore, more greenery. Evidence shows that there were about 280 farms in the two earliest main settlements. As a matter of fact, parts of Greenland are green. The south of Greenland is technically at a lower, warmer latitude than Iceland and, as a result, has more greenery.

That would be some adventure to kayak through icebergs. Thanks, Jacques.
