This zebra herd is arriving at the watering hole right at the famous African sunset. The large herd of wild animals forms a large dust cloud over this valley in the Savannah. With its fiery colors ranging from gold to ochre to russet orange, the sunset creates a magnificent glow.
Indeed, a magical place and moment which lasts until the last sun rays disappear. Each animal stands shoulder on shoulder in the water to still its thirst.
African Sunset & Zebra Herd
The magic of the African sunset with all its amazing glowing colors is breathtaking. Late afternoon I was arriving at this wonderful place. More than 800 animals come out of the bush to still their thirst at the watering hole. As a result, the large herd of zebras whirling up so much dust. It is hard to see the end of the herd.
Was there an end to the zebra herd? With the sun descending, the light started to get more smooth, vibrant, and orange. Such spectacle which you do not often witness in the natural world in Africa. Once in a while, some animals were fighting or running within the marsh to the water.
Of course, that stirred up even more dust. Such place to sink in and enjoy. Sometimes a long neck was sticking out in the crowd, giraffes. They as well gathered around the watering hole.
Did you know there is even an extinct zebra species, called the quagga, that had a stripy head and a stripe-free butt?
