An elusive African Leopard is scanning the area for prey. That is a beautiful up-close and personal photograph of that evasive animal. While browsing the savannah, the predator is showing us its elegant coat. See this Leopard’s incredible amber eyes and long whiskers as well. The African Leopard is entirely in focus in this portrait photograph. At the same time, the background is out of focus to emphasize the Leopard. An African Leopard has brilliant eyesight. Due to their well-developed retinas, they can see seven times better than humans at night. They can also hear five times better than us humans! After birth, cubs will open their eyes when they are about two weeks old.

Leopard Portrait

The best way to tell one African Leopard apart from another is by looking at their spots. The ones on their face are different on either side and are never the same shape or positioning. The Leopard’s long whiskers serve by indicating an opening, which helps them move around at night without getting stuck. They are also very sensitive to movement. Being one of the most elusive big cats, Leopards are a must-see either on a tree or being on the prowl slowly through the high grassland.

The Leopard, Panthera pardus, is in the category vulnerable on the IUCN red list.
