The beautiful soft pink and purple pastels of the sunrise complement the icy-blue Arctic glacier at Kongsfjorden. One of Svalbard’s massive Arctic glaciers as a fine art landscape photograph.

Kongsfjorden glacier is one of the most beautiful fjords in Svalbard, which lies in the Arctic. A Fjord is a profound valley that is usually narrow with steep sides. It is extended below sea level and filled with seawater. Protected by mountains and surrounded by breathtaking glacier fronts. It is home to many birds, seals, and whales. Global climate changes make it possible for people to visit the fjord and see the changes themselves.

Six interesting facts about glaciers:

  • They have masses of ice that flow very slowly, like slow-moving rivers.
  • They hold the world’s largest freshwater reservoir in the world.
  • Glaciers cover around 10% of the Earth’s; and surface.
  • There are two types of glaciers: Alpine and Continental Ice Sheets.
  • The largest glacier in the world is Lambert Glacier. It is located in Antarctica, measuring approximately 100km wide, 400km long and 2.5km deep.
  • The Kutiah Glacier in Pakistan has the record for the fastest glacier surge. In 1953, it moved more than 12km in three months.

Kongsfjorden is a basin on the west coast of Spitsbergen, an island that is part of the Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. The basin/fjord is 26 km long and ranges in width from 6 to 14 km.
