Sossusvlei, Namibia, Africa

3 Acacia trees stand on the white Deadvlei clay pan in Sossusvlei, Namibia. The first sunrise light is touching the pan while the shades are still dark from the contrast.

The famous Deadvlei clay pan and its trees in black and white. The first rays of the sun create a path of sunlight illuminating the pan along with the three trees, while in the background the desert dunes are still in deep shadow, giving the contrast between light and shadow. This contrast let these amazing old trees stand out in this black and white fine art photograph.

The beautiful Deadvlei, a famous area indeed, and it is difficult to capture a unique composition/photo of this scenery. This place is highly visited. When you come early morning, you might be lucky to have the white clay pan for yourself. I was lucky when I took this series of landscape photos. Walking in the dark for 15 minutes to get to the clay pan is easy.

However, when you are on the pan, you look around to find nice compositions. I have visited Sossusvlei a few times. Usually, I set up a few compositions of tree groups, single trees, and of course, all trees together when I am still at home.

Black & White Trees – Sossusvlei

Photographers and tourists love to see the impressive Sossusvlei and Deadvlei with the amazing orange/red dunes. That is because of the considerable contrast between the rusty-red dunes, stark black trees, white pans, and brilliant blue sky. Sometimes you will find the pans filled with fog, sandstorms, or the blue sky filled with large clouds.

All that considered make for excellent landscape photos. In this black and white photo, you can see the contrast between the light and dark areas. I am sure you see why this famous place is so often visited and photographed. Simply, these landscapes are unique.
