An areal view of the beautiful dunes shows us the endless Namib desert. You see them creating striking textured patterns as far as the eye can see. The forms these dunes create through wind seem endless to the horizon in this fine art B&W photograph. The sand creates in combination with the wind waves like on the sea. Same time it creates as well these impressive shapes of dunes, as you can see in this areal view.

Especially the inner Namib Desert is home to a variety of species. It includes an assortment of antelopes: namely gemsbok and springbok. Additionally, they also have ostriches and zebras. Elephants, lions, rhinoceroses, hyenas, and jackals you find there, but in the northern territory along the rivers. These rivers flow from the interior highlands to the Atlantic.

Namib Desert – Dunes Aerial View

The dunes of the outer Namib desert keep habitats for many different types of insects and reptiles. These primarily include beetles, geckos, and snakes. However, there are almost no mammals whatsoever. The shores contain diverse birdlife as well. Most commonly, flamingoes and pelicans.

There are penguins in the more southern part, together with a few colonies of seals. Interestingly, vast amounts of guano are scraped annually from the rocks of several offshore islands. Guano, we know, is the excrement of birds and bats, and we often use it in fertilizer.

A unique plant in the Namib is the tumboa. We also know it as welwitschia. Its two gigantic leaves sprawl over the surface of the ground from the crest of its massive root crown. It contains deep taproots that resemble giant radishes.
