African Guinea fowls often appear in large flocks. Quite the noisy birds indeed! They always have something to chat about and are running away because of an alarm call. You do not often see these quirky birds fly since they are not the best fliers in the category of birds. In this African Guinea fowl portrait, the bird stands proudly, in full size, against the blue water.

African Guinea Fowls Walk Long Distances

Guinea fowls walk many kilometers to find their food. At night they roost up in trees, especially to be secure from predators. They make most of their loud noises in the early mornings, superb alarm clocks they are. Not to mention in the late afternoon, before the sunset.

As it is, these birds are always very amusing to observe. They seem very common, but when you watch them for a little bit, they will put a smile on your face.

Native to Africa, it belongs to the Numididae family. That bird can weigh up to 1.3 kg / 2.8 lbs. Their dark gray feathers have many white spots, which look pretty neat and create an excellent pattern. The head is quite bare of feathers, but it still looks great in this case of the Guinea fowl portrait photograph.

The exposed blue neck leads up to the face, and just above the eyes is red skin.

Helmeted Guinea fowl, Numida meleagris, are native African birds. You can often find them in the African Savannahs open plains and occasionally beside the roads.

The loud birds of the African bush. They chat all day long. Thanks so much, Ruth.
