African Leopard is perched in a tree in this wildlife photograph. Leading diagonal lines of the tree trunks make for an interesting composition in this portrait photograph. Undoubtedly radiant and predatory eyes fixed on the camera. Indeed beautiful rosettes of the Leopard’s fur are on full display.

Discover some interesting facts about leopards:

  • They are the strongest of the big cats. Pound for pound, they will beat any other cat in a battle of strength.
  • When females mate, they mate with many males near their territory. That way, if one of the males comes into contact with her cubs, he will not kill them. That is because he will think that they are his offspring.
  • Leopard’s eyes are bright blue for the first few months of their lives.
  • From the Greek word, leopardus comes Leopard, which is a combination of Leon (lion) and Pardus (panther).
  • A Leopard’s ears can hear five times more sounds than the human ear.

The Leopard is perched in a tree in this wildlife photograph. That is because other predators cannot disturb the animal. Also, lions and hyenas cannot steal their prey if it is high in a tree where they cannot reach or climb. Other predators are not as agile as Leopards and do not have the same climbing skills.

The Leopard, Panthera pardus, is in the category vulnerable on the IUCN red list.

This leopard had its peace up in the tree and for sure a super overview of the African bush. Thanks so much, Lucy.
