You see two Burchell’s zebras fighting in the rain. These two magnificent zebras jump up in the air trying to kick or strike each other. The rain pouring down made the two even crazier. You can see both standing on their hind legs. The left zebra tries to bite the other zebra in the neck. Undoubtedly, they use their front legs to push away or give a kick.

The more it was pouring, the more the two zebras were fighting in the rain. Someone could have said; The gods must be crazy!

Zebras Fighting In The Rain

Burchell’s zebras usually live in small family units made up of a stallion, mare, and foal. These small families then congregate in larger groups around watering holes. Non-breeding studs form bachelor groups. Usually, they are between the ages of 4 – 12. The dominance in these herds is determined by age or fighting amongst each other.

When stallions meet together, they sniff nose to nose. Afterward, they rub their necks together, also sniff each other’s genitals, stamp their feet, and toss their heads. If a stallion is submissive, it then lowers its head, moves its ears backward, and makes chewing movements.

Dominant studs hold their heads up with ears cocked forward or turned inwards and back, showing their teeth and chasing. Indeed stallions fight for breeding rights and access to herd females.

Indeed it was Sue. It was heavy raining that day and the animals somehow were quite nervous with all the thunder and lightning. Thanks so much.
