These fantastic six wild dog cubs fight for food in front of a large tree log. Every animal is holding on to the same piece of meat. All cubs are trying to pull hard to get their share.

These fantastic six wild dog cubs fight for food. They are learning to survive and assert dominance amongst their siblings. They are fighting in front of a large tree log. Their name means “painted wolf” in Latin, and they have a common nickname called the “painted dog.”

Wild Dogs Are Extremely Sociable

Wild dogs are extremely sociable and live in close-knit packs. Even when one of them is injured, the pack will bring it food until it recovers. A litter can consist of up to ten pups, which is the highest amount of any canine. Only the dominant female and male breed and the others help take care of their offspring.

Comparing the painted dogs with lions and leopards, they have the highest success rate in hunting out of every predator. Indeed they hunt all together during dusk and dawn. A tactic they use is to outrun their prey. Their stamina is incredibly high. Indeed they will continue to chase the prey until the victim gives up to continue at the remaining speed. Wild dogs can run more than 70km / 44 miles per hour. They are roaming across large areas of more than 1240 square kilometers / 770 square miles.

Wild dogs, Lycaon Pictus, are on the IUCN red list as endangered. Indeed they are one of the rarest animals in Africa.
