The Meerkat lookout standing on a hill, lovely landscaped setting is framing the animal. Behind it is vast grasslands for miles, and only on the horizon line, can you see the form of trees? The composition is divided in half by the sky and the brown, short grasses.
This Meerkat’s eyes are position precisely under the horizon line as it looks beyond into the wide-open space. Standing on their hind legs, that’s how we know these funny animals the most.
Meerkats have a family-orientated way of life, and they all help one another. We can learn a lot from our tiny friends! When females give birth, they can have up to eight pups. However, they usually only have around four at a time. They are born blind, deaf, and almost hairless.
The whole mob of Meerkats, including fathers, aunts, brothers, and sisters, will pitch in and help raise the young as a family. The gang works together and everybody has a turn to be on the Outlook for predators.
Meerkats, Suricata suricatta, are in the category least concern on the IUCN red list. Currently, there aren’t many threats that are endangering their species, and their population is thriving.
