Colossal icebergs are floating at sunset in Disko Bay. The soft pastel colors of the sunset complement the light blue tint of the ice beneath it. Greenland’s Ilulissat Icefjord is a tidal fjord that floating colossal ice covers. The Icefjord is situated where the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier calves ice into the sea in Greenland.
Greenland’s Icebergs
Did you know that about 80% of Greenland’s large ice sheet/cap covers it permanently? Therefore, the population of this country lives along the ice-free archipelago. Most of the population lives in the lower parts of western Greenland. In contrast, a small part lives in the northern Thule area. As well as in two demarcated areas on the rough east coast.
The inland ice, otherwise known as the ice sheet, has an area of 1.8 million square km. The inland ice is the highest point at 3300 meters above sea level. That massive ice sheet is over 3500 meters thick. That equals about 7% of the Earth’s freshwater supply. Additionally, we estimate to raise in sea levels by 7% worldwide if the ice sheet melts. Unquestionably, climate change happens! There are also glaciers everywhere in Greenland. All of which come in unique shapes and sizes.

It must be amazing to see the massive icebergs floating in the Arctic sea. So wonderful colors of the ice with the Sunset light.
